Getting ready to hire an accountant may conjure thoughts of tax filing, but that’s just one of the many services accountants provide. They’ll be an important part of your practice, so choose wisely.
One thing you must decide is if you need an accountant who is a CPA, a Certified Public Accountant. Anyone who records and reports business and financial transactions can be referred to as an accountant, even without an accounting degree. CPAs must meet state licensing requirements, which include a certain level of education and experience, and must pass the CPA exam. CPAs are held to a higher standard than an accountant who is not certified.
