Student Ambassador Spotlight: Randi Birr
3 minutes
Why are you a NCMIC Starting Into Practice Student Ambassador?
The previous student ambassador has such great things to say about NCMIC and what it means to be an ambassador. I thought it would be a great way to get involved with NCMIC from the ground floor and help connect other students to all the resources it has to offer.
Why did you choose chiropractic?
During COVID, I moved from my job as a dental assistant to chiropractic assistant. I saw how impactful the chiropractor was for his patients. I grew to admire the relationship he had with his patients, the care he provided, and how chiropractic can change lives.
What is your favorite Starting Into Practice resource?
My favorite thing is the NCMIC podcast, Chiropractical. I commute quite a bit so I love that I can listen to helpful tips and advice from students, recent grads, and experienced chiropractors about all things chiropractic. It is especially helpful to learn things not presented in school such as finances, hiring personnel, and risk management.
What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to associate at the practice that influenced me to become a chiropractor.
What’s your secret talent?
I teach yoga to veterans and first responders with PTSD.
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is in their first year?
Do not learn topics just for the test. Learn it for your future patients. When you change your focus from getting good grades to being able to influence future patients’ well-being, it makes the topics more interesting, memorable, and important.
What’s your process for turning a bad day into a good day?
I like walking outside. I find that many times when I am ruminating about something, a walk outside tends to lessen the stress or help me find the solution.
What destination do you hope to visit one day?
Ireland is next on my bucket list!
What are three words your friends would use to describe you?
Persistent, introspective, positive.
Are you reading any books for fun?
Currently, I’m reading Glennon Doyle’s "Untamed." Definitely worth the read!
